Emmy-Winning Executive Producer, Writer, Director, Editor
A 4th generation Coloradan, Julie grew up around the world as an Air Force brat. Her formative years were spent in England, the United States (Boise & Las Vegas) and Belgium. Since 2000, she has called Colorado home and has traveled the world capturing stories on video.
An Emmy-Award-Winning documentary filmmaker, Julie brings 20 years working with people from all walks of life and cultures. She’s a gifted interviewer, accomplished writer / director, and enjoys setting the strategy and big picture for a production and then bringing that to life. Julie has produced and directed over 1000 documentaries across the US and abroad, including several Emmy Award-Winning shows for Public Television. She was the Creator & Showrunner for Rocky Mountain PBS’s “Colorado Experience” from 2011-2021 and the Co-Founder & Executive Director of Little Voice Productions, Inc. from 1999-2009 where she helped hundreds of nonprofits tell their story.
She serves on the board of Women in Film in Colorado, as the Colorado Regional Film Commissioner for Chaffee County, and on the Education & Early-Career Advisory Panel for The National Center for Atmospheric Research.
When not working, Julie loves cooking, gardening, handstands, painting and enjoying the Colorado outdoors. Although she holds a degree in International Affairs & Economics, her passion is storytelling and she consistently has several projects in development. She splits her time between Denver and Salida and is also the President & Chief Creative Officer of Julie Speer Productions, Inc.
